Graham, 86, of Van Wert and formerly of Payne, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48364\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48364\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Alvert-Graham-obit-photo-2-2014.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48364 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Alverta M. Graham\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Alvert-Graham-obit-photo-2-2014.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48364\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alverta M. Graham<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She was born March 20, 1927, in Grantsville, Md., the daughter of the late Emanuel E. and Ida Mae (Bittinger) Durst. On December 24, 1952, she married Merwin D. Graham, who preceded her in death on May 9, 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include two daughters, Diane (John) Hearne of Gilbert, Ariz., and Maudie (Tom) Wingo of Van Wert; a sister, Delores (Glenn) Sisler of Grantsville, Md.; five grandchildren, Michelle Barlow, Chad Fisher, Natalie Fisher, Brittany Gleason and Olivia Wingo; and three great-grandchildren, Brant Barlow, Madison Fisher and Scarlett Fisher.<\/p>\n<p>Three brothers, Charlie, Lester and Menno Durst; and a sister, Melda Havener, also preceded her in death.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Graham was a homemaker and a member of the Payne Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for 27 years. Alverta found much joy in flower gardening, baking and, most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p><b>Private family memorial services will be conducted at a later date in Grantsville, Md., with burial to take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grantsville.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>No visitation is planned at this time.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Preferred memorials: Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements were handled by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home &amp; Crematory in Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>Online condolence may be left at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alspachgearhart.com\">www.alspachgearhart.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alverta M.
