{"id":4874,"date":"2011-03-17T22:54:52","date_gmt":"2011-03-18T03:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=4874"},"modified":"2011-03-17T22:54:52","modified_gmt":"2011-03-18T03:54:52","slug":"patrol-provides-ovi-related-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/03\/17\/patrol-provides-ovi-related-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrol provides OVI-related statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Van Wert independent\/<\/strong><em>OSHP information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Patrol\u2019s new symbol of its efforts \u2013 Trooper Shield \u2013 and its ongoing effort to contribute to a safer Ohio, troopers will have an increased focus on impaired driving enforcement in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <em>Ohio State Highway Patrol OVI-Related Crashes and Arrests<\/em> statistical recap from the Patrol\u2019s Statistical Analysis Unit, troopers made 22,064 OVI arrests statewide during 2010. Of these, more than one in five \u2013 22 percent \u2013 included a speed violation; 18 percent included a violation for driving without a valid driver license; and nearly one-eighth included a safety belt violation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"85\" height=\"112\" \/>In addition, there were 13,919 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways, killing 397 and injuring 8,517. The Patrol\u2019s new superintendent, Colonel John Born, has deemed these numbers \u201cunacceptable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t fight the battle against impaired driving on our own \u2013 we need your commitment to make our roads safe,\u201d said Lt.
