Bonnie Thatcher of the Van Wert City Schools has received the Outstanding Union Service award from the Ohio Federations of Teachers. She received this award at the 76th convention held at the InterContinental in Cleveland.<\/p>\n

As a dedicated middle school teacher, Thatcher has represented OFT in the Ohio Schools to Watch program that honors schools that serve the middle grades in an exemplary fashion. As a teacher at Van Wert Middle School, she was instrumental in earning the school its designation as an \u201cOhio School to Watch\u201d.<\/p>\n

Thatcher has been a building representative and officer in the Van Wert Federation of Teachers. She has served as its president and has been very active in working through their health care committee to improve her members\u2019 health care benefits, using her creative nature to work with others to enhance their program.<\/p>\n

She serves on the OFT Executive Council and has been the co-chair of the OFT Union Leadership Institute since its inception. She staunchly supports all OFT activities and recruits members in Van Wert to participate. She has also served at the national level as an instructor at the Great Lakes Union Leadership Institute in the Leadership Development course. Thatcher has been active in the OFT Union for over 30 years.<\/p>\n

David Walker received a watch for his 30 years of service to the Union and for his retirement. Walker has served as building representative, vice president and president of Local 4088. He presently is a fifth grade teacher at Van Wert Elementary and will retire at the end of the school year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
