{"id":49681,"date":"2014-03-19T06:34:05","date_gmt":"2014-03-19T11:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=49681"},"modified":"2014-03-20T07:27:20","modified_gmt":"2014-03-20T12:27:20","slug":"county-oks-development-website-wellness-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/03\/19\/county-oks-development-website-wellness-program\/","title":{"rendered":"County approves development website"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>DAVE MOSIER\/<\/b><i>independent editor<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The Van Wert County Board of Commissioners had a busy day on Tuesday, with presentations on two different website designs, a Wellness Champion meeting, and discussions on grant writing opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/VW-County-Courthouse-photo-3-2014.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-49682\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"VW County Courthouse photo 3-2014\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/VW-County-Courthouse-photo-3-2014.jpg\" width=\"330\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a>Commissioner Todd Wolfrum said the commissioners met with Kelly Goins on an idea for an economic development-related website. Tentatively being called \u201cVan Wert Works,\u201d the website will provide a central county clearinghouse that will allow area companies to post job openings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMercer County does it, and we saw that, and it was a great thing,\u201d Wolfrum said.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioners approved a resolution on Tuesday to move the website project forward.<\/p>\n<p>Also Tuesday, the commissioner met with website designer Chris Wilson, who gave a presentation on a new, updated county website. The commissioners have met with several companies, including Maverick Media and Twyla Hayes of Brand-It Communications to get proposals for an updated county website. Other companies may also yet submit proposals prior to a final decision being made.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The commissioners also are looking at developing a county wellness program entitled Wellness Champions. The ongoing program, which will kick off April 1, would provide a number of health benefits to participants, as well as a special credit on the county\u2019s health insurance if enough employees participate.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioners also met with semi-retired economic development consultant Ron Puthoff of Community Development Services to set up a development grant-writing program for the county.<\/p>\n<p>Puthoff provided a primer on what is needed to seek out and win grant awards for economic development purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioners also Tuesday approved 12 area sites where county waste can be hauled.
