Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) announced $1,466,107 in new federal funds to support Head Start programs run by Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission Inc., an agency in northwest Ohio working to eliminate poverty. Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission, Inc. serves Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Van Wert, and Williams counties. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded the funds to cover full year programs, part day programs, handicapped training, and technical assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is excellent news for northwest Ohio families and their children,\u201d Brown said. \u201cHead Start ensures that children have the skills they need to succeed in elementary school and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Head Start is a federal program that provides children from low-income families with programming to prepare them for school, up until the age of 5. These programs, including health, nutrition, and social services, are designed to ensure their healthy cognitive, social, and emotional development.
