Smith has a long list of projects for newly- hired program manager Leesa Brown to tackle, and they lost no time getting started Monday \u2013 Brown\u2019s first day on the job.<\/p>\n<p>Brown, a native of Wren, will assist Smith and the county commissioners with applying for economic and community development funding and attracting new jobs to the area.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51165\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51165\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sarah-Smith-with-Leesa-Brown-4-2014.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51165 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"Van Wert County Economic Director Sarah Smith (left) talks with new County Program Manager Leesa Brown. (photo submitted)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cLeesa\u2019s experience with all levels of government, particularly her work in the Ohio Department of Development and with Franklin County\u2019s commissioners in Columbus, means we can move quickly and from a position of strength on the kinds of projects so important to attracting good jobs for families in our county,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>Brown worked for the state\u2019s Department of Development executive director and said it was a learning experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe competition between states for large job creation projects was just beginning,\u201d Brown said. \u201cI worked with the team that helped land the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and I learned so much. \u201cTelling your story in a convincing and compelling way is a big part of being competitive,\u201d Brown added. \u201cI am excited to be part of the county\u2019s ambitious strategy to get the word out far and wide that this is a good place to do business. The work ethic here is probably unsurpassed, and we have a strong education system and training as well as solid community support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown is the daughter of Dorothy Brown and the late Paul G. \u201cPete\u201d Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad was a farmer and also worked for 30 years at International Harvester,\u201d Brown said. \u201cMy mom spent her career in banking. Both of my parents worked very, very hard to build a good life for their family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeeping family here is important to this community, and providing good jobs is instrumental to making it happen,\u201d she added. \u201cI am grateful to have an opportunity to contribute to that.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Van Wert County information Van Wert County Economic Development Director Sarah K.
