<\/a>Davis and Superintendent Staci Kaufman both said they expect the solar array to generate more energy than needed this summer, with high school students gone and portions of the building shut down, but neither was sure whether the school will receive revenues from the sale of the excess power generated by the array.<\/p>\n
Kaufman noted that, because Vantage currently buys its electric power from a third-party provider, First Energy, current state regulations don\u2019t require First Energy to pass on a portion of the money earned from the excess power generation. However, other third-party providers do offer reimbursement for overgeneration, and Kaufman said Vantage may need to switch to another provider if First Energy doesn\u2019t elect to provide reimbursement for the excess power generated by the solar array.<\/p>\n
Also Thursday, Electricity instructor Kent Taylor, who is retiring after 30 years with Vantage, was recognized by Kaufman and the board.<\/p>\n
Taylor said it coincidental that he first started at Vantage as a student when the facility was two years old and is now leaving what is essentially a two-year-old building, thanks to Vantage\u2019s renovation\/construction project, after three decades as an instructor.<\/p>\n
Taylor said he didn\u2019t know exactly what he planned to do, noting that Vantage has asked him to become an Adult Education instructor, while he has also considered taking a position in a manufacturing company.<\/p>\n
During his report, Adult Education Director Pete Prichard touched on the success of Vantage\u2019s first virtual class, which involves an instructor at a site outside Vantage providing interactive teaching to students at the local school by means of communications technology.<\/p>\n
Kaufman added that virtual instruction was something Vantage planned for when designing the renovation-construction project.<\/p>\n
In other action, the board:<\/p>\n

- Hired the following season employees: Karen McGilton and Caleb Bender, seasonal custodians, and Zachary Crider and Matthew Schrader, summer technology helpers.<\/li>\n
- Approved the following supplemental contracts: Marcia Osenga, Kari Casto and Mike Miller, LPDC Committee members; Susan Farr, resident educator mentor for Sarah Wurth; Theresa Mengerink, second year resident educator mentor for Leigh Carey; Amy Grothouse, second year resident educator mentor for Larry Regedanz; Beth Evans, second year resident educator mentor for Matt Miller; Mary Ann Falk, resident educator facilitator for Ashley Cline, Mike Miller and Sherryl Proctor.<\/li>\n
- Employed Debbie Venderley as an Adult Education instructor.<\/li>\n
- Acknowledged an anonymous donation of welding jackets and caps worth approximately $1,680 from a former welding student who attended Vantage in the early 1980s.<\/li>\n
- Authorized overnight trips to San Antonio, Texas, for the National FCCLA Leadership Conference on July 4-11 and to Kansas City, Mo., for the National SkillsUSA competition June 22-29.<\/li>\n
- Approved Vantage\u2019s revised 2014-2015 student handbook.<\/li>\n
- Approved satellite agreements with Van Wert City Schools and Paulding Exempted Village Schools.<\/li>\n
- Went into executive session to discuss personnel, with no action taken afterwards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
