{"id":51419,"date":"2014-05-06T06:57:28","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T11:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=51419"},"modified":"2014-05-06T06:57:28","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T11:57:28","slug":"vwecc-action-for-healthy-kids-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/05\/06\/vwecc-action-for-healthy-kids-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"VWECC &#8216;Action for Healthy Kids&#8217; winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Van Wert ECC information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Van Wert\u2019s Early Childhood Center, along with more than 500 schools around the country, recently celebrated \u201cEvery Kid Healthy\u2122 Week\u201d with Action for Healthy Kids and other organizations dedicated to children\u2019s health and academic success.<\/p>\n<p>Launched by Action for Healthy Kids\u00ae (AFHK) in 2013, \u201cEvery Kid Healthy Week\u201d is an annual observance shared by AFHK\u2019s network of schools, partner organizations and volunteers as part of a national movement to create healthier school environments for kids.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Every-Kid-Health-logo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-51421\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"Every Kid Health logo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Every-Kid-Health-logo.png\" width=\"250\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>Formally observed the last week of April, this special week &#8212; which is recognized on the calendar of national health observances &#8212; provides an opportunity for VWECC to celebrate its contributions to students\u2019 health and wellness.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, as a winner of the Zone 2 Ohio Action for Healthy Kids \u201cEvery Kid Healthy Week Challenge\u201d, the VWECC<i> <\/i>received a banner, $100 towards school wellness programming, and a cooking demo for students during the lunch hour, to be scheduled in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the Van Wert ECC<i>,<\/i> we\u2019re working to do our part to put our students on a healthier path by giving them opportunities to explore healthy food choices for breakfast and snacks,\u201d said Principal William Wisher. \u201cThe children also are encouraged to stay active; each morning before they head down to their classrooms, they meet in the gym to \u2018get moving\u2019 &#8212; either through dance or another movement activity<i>.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Wisher said school staff members are also taking the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.actionforhealthykids.org\/\">Every Kid Healthy Pledge<\/a> to get the information and free resources the school needs to create healthier school environments for kids.
