{"id":51447,"date":"2014-05-06T21:41:07","date_gmt":"2014-05-07T02:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=51447"},"modified":"2014-05-06T21:41:07","modified_gmt":"2014-05-07T02:41:07","slug":"do-traditional-hymns-mean-much-to-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/05\/06\/do-traditional-hymns-mean-much-to-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Do traditional hymns mean much to you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a question many church folk contemplate today.\u00a0For years, the church community grew up learning and singing hymns that became a staple of their worship.\u00a0Many of these hymns reflected a deep personal belief that shaped ones spiritual life.\u00a0 Some hymns were carryovers from the Gregorian chant times, while others were more Gospel oriented from the 19th and early 20th centuries.\u00a0 Whatever they may have been, many people hold the message of the lyrics set to inspirational tunes near and dear to their hearts.<\/p>\n<p>With the inception of what many now call \u201cContemporary Worship,\u201d many people struggle to find opportunities to sing and enjoy those great old traditional hymns of faith: songs like \u201cHoly, Holy, Holy,\u201d \u201cO God Our Help in Ages Past,\u201d \u201cThe Church\u2019s One Foundation,\u201d \u201cFor All the Saints,\u201d and \u201cGod of Grace and God of Glory.\u201d\u00a0 For me personally, these hymns express the grandeur of our Creator and the Divine Holiness.<\/p>\n<p>If you miss this type of experience, I have the answer to your desire.\u00a0 The First United Methodist Senior Choir, along with its Hand Bell Choir, organ, and magnificent brass are presenting a Hymn Festival on Sunday, May 18, at 7 p.m.\u00a0During this hour-long program, you will have the opportunity to sing, listen, experience and worship in a magnificent setting with glorious traditional hymns.<\/p>\n<p>Interspersed with the hymns will be scripture readings as well as meditations and significant, historical readings on the background of these hymns.
