{"id":51689,"date":"2014-05-13T21:54:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T02:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=51689"},"modified":"2014-05-13T21:54:38","modified_gmt":"2014-05-14T02:54:38","slug":"worship-with-music-a-hymn-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/05\/13\/worship-with-music-a-hymn-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Worship with music: A hymn festival!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Sunday night at 7, the Senior Choir of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert will be presenting a hymn festival entitled: \u201cPassionate Worship with Glorious Traditional Hymns.\u201d\u00a0 This is for the entire community to participate and enjoy.\u00a0It is not your typical \u201cpopcorn\u201d style hymn fest where you come and just shout out your favorite hymn to sing. This has been a well thought out and planned festival of celebrating traditional hymns that many worshippers have grown up with and have special meaning.<\/p>\n<p>Choir, audience, organ, brass, hand bells, and timpani are all a part of this festival.\u00a0 Many of the hymns will be sung in concertato form, where the accompaniment is a little more sophisticated, but the audience singing is still simple.\u00a0 I hope it provides an exhilarating and uplifting experience for all who attend.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the hymns will be highlighted and introduced with scripture, background and spoken meditations.\u00a0 It is meant to tie the entire evening together in a meaningful and passionate worship experience, but in a traditional setting using hymns that have been sung for years and lyrics of staying power.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key words in the title of this hymn festival is \u201cglorious.\u201d\u00a0 From the opening of \u201cHoly, Holy, Holy\u201d with brass, organ and voices to the closing hymn: \u201cJesus Shall Reign,\u201d glorious praise will be lifted to our Creator.\u00a0 It will be a fitting tribute to the benefactor of this service, long-time Van Wert resident and businesswoman Margaret Maney.\u00a0Many of you knew Margaret and her husband, John, who for years operated Maney\u2019s Bootery shoe store in downtown Van Wert.\u00a0 Her son, Kevin, provided the funding in honor of his mother and wished to honor her in some way with music.\u00a0 Music meant a lot to \u201cMarg\u201d, as she was active as a pianist, singer, and handbell ringer at First U.M. Church in Van Wert for years.\u00a0Marg, we hope you are pleased!<\/p>\n<p>I hope you can attend and experience \u201cPassionate Worship with Glorious Traditional Hymns\u201d this Sunday night, May 18, at 7 in the sanctuary of First U.M. Church in Van Wert.\u00a0 I encourage you to invite family and friends and make it an evening to remember.<\/p>\n<p>On the performing arts side, we have now wrapped up on our most successful Niswonger seasons ever!\u00a0 From the opening in October with Michael W.
