Students and teachers are pushing through their last chapters and units and trying to get the most out of the school year.

With the end of the school year comes events like the eighth grade trip to Washington, DC, Fun Day, and the Relay for Life. All of these opportunities to miss regular classes make the end of the school year that much more enjoyable for the students.

Most of the eighth grade class along with their chaperones departed for Washington, on Sunday evening and will return early Friday. On their first day of the trip, the group visited historical sites like Gettysburg, Ford’s Theater, the Lincoln Memorial and several war memorials. The trip is sure to be packed with valuable historical education along with fellowship among classmates.

Freshman Dylan Sparks attended the trip last year and said, “My favorite part of the trip was seeing all the historical sites.”

If the weather holds out this Friday, high school students will be participating in the annual Fun Day event. Individual students and teams will compete against each other for points for their class. The class with the most points will reign as this year’s victors of Fun Day and will earn bragging rights for the rest of the school year.

Junior Craig Camp said, “Tug-of-war is my favorite event. It’s the most exciting and the most competitive.”

This Friday also rewards students dedicated to serving their community and school. Both junior Kaitlin Hallfeldt and senior Sarah Klinger racked up at least 18 hours each of community service the second semester for the Crestview Community Service Incentive Day. These two will be excused from classes on Friday for their dedication to service.

Kaitlin Hallfeldt said, “I worked as event staff for basketball games, babysat at my church and helped out at the VMC. I’m glad I got to help people out, and I get out of school for the entire day.”

Although it doesn’t seem like the school year is over quite yet, the Knights are in the home stretch with only one more full week of classes and two short weeks after that.
