WASHINGTON, D.C. — New federal resources have been awarded to a fire department in Van Wert County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) announced that Ohio City Volunteer Fire Department and Wren Volunteer Fire Department have been awarded $73,255 for Operations and Safety by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security\u2019s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirefighters put their lives on the line each day to keep our communities safe,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThese new federal resources will help ensure that Van Wert County\u2019s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ohio City Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $41,943 and Wren Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $31,312 in funding as part of the round 8 competitive Fiscal Year 2013 AFG Program announcements.<\/p>\n
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders improve their ability to protect the public and themselves. Projects funded in the Operations and Safety category include training, facility upgrades and modifications, and supplies such as protective equipment.<\/p>\n
