Friday the 13th was especially unlucky for a trio of rural Van Wert residents who were arrested following a search of their residence.<\/p>\n

The three Van Wert residents were charged in connection with a drug bust at a residence on U.S. 127 that took place Friday.<\/p>\n

Jessica L. Thompson, 28, and Derek Showalter, 31, were both charged with one count of possession of heroin, a felony of the second degree, while Brandon L. Thompson, 27, was charged with a probation violation.<\/p>\n

All three were taken to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility until an initial appearance is scheduled in Van Wert Municipal Court. A young child found in the home when the search warrant was executed was also turned over to Van Wert County Children\u2019s Services.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach noted that the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force and deputies from his office executed a search warrant at a residence located at 13027 U.S. 127 on Friday.<\/p>\n

Items found during the search include hypodermic needles, a moderate amount of what is suspected to be heroin, cash, a white powder suspected to be methamphetamine and a handgun.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Riggenbach also noted that a nuisance abatement letter was sent to the property owner to make that person aware of alleged illegal activity occurring on the property. The letter also directs property owners to take action in the hopes of avoiding any future illegal activity there.<\/p>\n

The sheriff added that, under Ohio law, property where illegal activities have been knowingly allowed to continue may be seized by law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Riggenbach also notes that anyone with information about illegal activities can call his office at 419.238.3866 or use the Van Wert County Sheriff\u2019s Office website at 222.vanwertcountysheriff.com and click on the \u201cSubmit a Crime Tip\u201d link. Those reporting information can remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

In addition to the sheriff\u2019s office, area residents can also report information on other crimes by calling Crime Stoppers at 419.238.STOP. Callers can also remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

The West Central Ohio Crime Task Force is comprised of officers from the Van Wert, Allen and Paulding County sheriff\u2019s offices, the Lima Police Department and several state and federal agencies, and combats drug activity and major crimes with a multi-county area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
