(Dave Mosier/Van Wert independent)

Lincolnview alumnus and teacher Robbie Breese was given a three-year limited administrative contract as the new Marsh School principal, effective the 2014-15 school year. Breese replaces Roger Salisbury, who retired at the end of the past school year.

Breese is a 2002 graduate of Lincolnview High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Wright State University and his master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. Prior to his hiring as Marsh School principal, Breese was an elementary physical education teacher and assistant athletic director. The board accepted Breese’s resignation from his elementary teaching job so that he could take the Marsh School administrative position.

The board also approved a new three-year agreement with the Lincolnview Local Education Association during Monday’s meeting and approved recommended salary increases for all regular classified employees as presented.

Lincolnview will be purchasing a number of technology items through funding provided by the Straight A grant awarded to the district last year. Purchase totals are as follows: Schoolhouse Electronics LLC, $57,870.48; Tierney Brothers, $46,338; Apple Inc., $57,623.95; and Xtek Partners, $37,017.

Superintendent Jeff Snyder and Board President Eric Germann also spoke of a trip to Columbus to meet with state officials, a meeting both called “disappointing” because of Governor John Kasich’s and the Ohio General Assembly’s decision to approve legislation increasing setbacks for wind turbines – legislation that could curtail development of the Dog Creek Wind Farm, which would provide significant financial benefits to the Lincolnview district.

Treasurer Troy Bowersock noted that revenues for the district were 2 percent ahead of projections, while expenses were pretty much on target. He also noted that real estate values nearly doubled in the district, but the added valuation will add little to the district’s revenues, because of House Bill 920, legislation adopted in the 1970s that essentially offsets increases in real estate taxes, unless those increases come from new construction.

In other personnel action, the board approved granting Brenda Eickholt a one-year limited administrative contract as program/services coordinator, and also gave one-year extended service contracts to the following employees: Krista Seibert, 30 days, career tech vocational agriculture; Anna Baker, 20 days, instrumental music; Jay Hoersten, five days, industrial tech; Brenda Leeth, 20 days, high school-junior high school guidance counselor; and Deb Stetler, 10 days, high school librarian.

Salisbury was also given a one-year supplemental contract through the Title I Fiscal Year 2014 budget, while former high school-junior high school principal Kelly Dye had his teaching contract with the district suspended, effective August 1.

The board also accepted the resignations of retiring custodian Clara Eberle after 19 years of service to the district, and math teacher Calli Coppus after three years with Lincolnview Local Schools.

In other action, the board:

Accepted bids from Perfection Bakery for bread and Dairymen’s for dairy products for the district cafeteria.

Accepted, with thanks, the following donations: $1,500 from the Van Wert County Foundation for the Lincolnview music department; $3,000 from the county foundation to purchase band uniforms; and $1,194 from the Klein Trust of the county foundation.

Renewed membership in the Equity and Adequacy Coalition for the 2014-15 school year.

Transferred $5,500 from the General Fund to the Uniform School Supplies Fund.

Approved the purchase of K-12 textbooks for health and language arts at a cost of $18,737.38.

Approved school handbooks for the upcoming school year.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Lincolnview Local Board of Education will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Neubrecht Lecture Hall.

DAVE MOSIER/independent editor The Lincolnview Local Board of Education hired a new principal for the Marsh Foundation School and also authorized nearly $200,000 in technology purchases during its June meeting on Monday.
