{"id":5423,"date":"2011-03-28T17:39:37","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T22:39:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=5423"},"modified":"2011-03-28T17:39:37","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T22:39:37","slug":"heather-lynne-wettig-zenz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/03\/28\/heather-lynne-wettig-zenz\/","title":{"rendered":"Heather Lynne Wettig-Zenz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heather Lynne Wettig-Zenz, our beautiful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt lost her courageous year and a half battle with triple negative breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Heather was born on the 16th day of December in 1967 at Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Ill. She had gorgeous auburn hair and bright blue eyes. She was the first-born angel of her parents, Thomas Eugene and Rebecca Sue (Allison) Wettig.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5424\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5424\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5424 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Heather-Wettig-Zenz-obit-photo-3-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"295\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5424\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Heather Lynne Wettig-Zenz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As a child, she attended Northwestern Elementary School in Springfield (Ohio) for a short time until the family moved to Fort Wayne, Ind. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Huntertown, Ind., where she attended Huntertown Elementary. In 1982 she moved, with her family, to Florence, Ky., and attended Ockerman Junior High School, where she was a cheerleader, in Drama Club and a drill team co-captain. Moving once again to Van Wert, Heather was a cheerleader and a homecoming attendant her junior year. She graduated in 1986 from Van Wert High School. She also attended and graduated from Ohio State Beauty Academy in Lima. She was employed by Federal-Mogul Corporation in Van Wert for 22 years. She met and married her husband, best friend and partner in life, Douglas John Zenz, while both of them worked at Federal-Mogul. Doug passed away unexpectedly in January of this year while taking care of Heather in Zion, Ill., at the Cancer Centers of America. Heather was an avid walker and enjoyed singing, dancing, reading, spending time with her husband, children, granddaughter, friends and taking care of her cats. Heather joined First Presbyterian Church in her teens and also attended First Friends Church in Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>Heather is survived by her children, the lights of her life, Jacob (Megan) Thomas Logan and Caleb Nicholas Logan; her sisters, who were her best friends, Carmel Anne Wettig-Smith and Amy Michelle (Craig) Wettig-Stockton; nephews Andrew Christian Wettig, Colin Reed Smith, Nicholas James Thomas Stockton; her niece, Sophia Elizabeth Stockton; and her beloved granddaughter, Mya Kaylinn Logan.<\/p>\n<p>Heather\u2019s family would like to thank all of the Angels who took care of her through her journey: The Cancer Treatment Center of Zion, Ill., Rob and Carol Pye of Hope Ministries in Zion, Van Wert Visiting Nurses-Hospice the Caring Way, Pastor Paul Hamrick of First Friends Church and Pastor Tom Steensma of First Presbyterian Church.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home &amp; Crematory in Van wert, with the Rev. Tom Steensma and Rev. Paul Hamrick officiating.
