{"id":54419,"date":"2014-08-11T07:10:45","date_gmt":"2014-08-11T12:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=54419"},"modified":"2014-08-11T07:10:45","modified_gmt":"2014-08-11T12:10:45","slug":"2-hurt-1-killed-in-area-weekend-crashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/08\/11\/2-hurt-1-killed-in-area-weekend-crashes\/","title":{"rendered":"2 hurt, 1 killed in area weekend crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>VW independent\/OSHP information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Several people were hurt and one person was killed in accidents that occurred in the area over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A Spencerville man was injured Thursday night when the motorcycle he was driving crashed on Ohio 116.<\/p>\n<p>According to investigating troopers from the Van Wert Post, James A. Goetz, 41, was driving a 2002 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle west on Ohio 116 when he drove off the right side of the road while trying to negotiate a curve and ended up in a cornfield with the motorcycle on top of him.<\/p>\n<p>Goetz was life-flighted by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for treatment of his injuries. He was listed in stable condition Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Middle Point Fire and EMS, Van Wert Fire Department, and the Van Wert County Sheriff\u2019s Office assisted the Patrol at the crash scene.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2340\" alt=\"osplogo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" width=\"121\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>Goetz was not wearing a helmet and alcohol was believed to be a factor in the accident.<\/p>\n<p>An Antwerp man was injured in a one-vehicle crash that took place Thursday night on Paulding County Road 424 in Carryall Township.<\/p>\n<p>According to troopers from the Van Wert Post, John Tuto, 34, was westbound on County Road 424 when he drove off the right side of the road. He then overcorrected in an attempt to regain control of his vehicle and veered off the left side of the road, where he hit a driveway and his vehicle flipped over several times before coming to rest on its top.<\/p>\n<p>Tuto, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was taken to Parkview by Samaritan helicopter. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The Paulding County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Antwerp Fire and EMS assisted the Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>A Bryan man was killed Friday night in a crash in Williams County.<\/p>\n<p>Terrence Sheets, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Williams County Coroner\u2019s Office, following the accident, which occurred at 9:30 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n<p>According to troopers from the Defiance OSHP Post, Sheets was driving west on Williams County Road D, approximately two-tenths of a mile east of Ohio 576, when his vehicle went off the north side of the road. Sheets\u2019 vehicle then crossed the centerline and veered off the south side of the road, where it rolled over several times and Sheets was ejected from the 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.<\/p>\n<p>Sheets was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Assisting the Patrol at the scene were the Williams County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Bryan Fire Department and Williams County EMS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent\/OSHP information Several people were hurt and one person was killed in accidents that occurred in the area over the weekend.
