{"id":54690,"date":"2014-08-19T07:08:50","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T12:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=54690"},"modified":"2014-08-19T07:08:50","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T12:08:50","slug":"off-stage-announces-cast-for-new-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/08\/19\/off-stage-announces-cast-for-new-play\/","title":{"rendered":"Off Stage announces cast for new play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Off Stage Productions information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Off Stage Productions Inc. opens its 2014-2015 season and announces the cast for its upcoming dinner theatre show, <em>The Hallelujah Girls<\/em>, a two-act Southern comedy written by the popular play-writing team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten.<\/p>\n<p>Carol Snyder returns to direct this show after her directorial debut this past spring with \u201cNana\u2019s Naughty Knickers\u201d.\u00a0The cast for <em>The Hallelujah Girls<\/em> will feature some familiar Off Stage actors, as well as some making their very first appearance in an Off Stage production.<\/p>\n<p>Mark those calendars and plan to attend one or more of the five show dates offered: September 26-28 and October 3-4.\u00a0 Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 12:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, September 28, at the Van Wert County Senior Center (220 Fox Road in Van Wert).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-Hallelujah-Girls-play-logo-8-2014.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-54691\" alt=\"The Hallelujah Girls play logo 8-2014\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-Hallelujah-Girls-play-logo-8-2014.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a>A delicious buffet style meal prepared by \u201cCatering\u00a0at\u00a0its\u00a0BEST\u00a0by\u00a0Sonya\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Diane\u201d will be served starting at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 in the evening (a 1 p.m. meal and 2 p.m. show for the Sunday matinee).<\/p>\n<p>Join this all-star cast and creative team and theatre-goers will be sure to laugh out loud and shout \u201cHallelujah!\u201d watching these feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, shake things up at the Spa-Dee-Dah!, their abandoned church-turned-day-spa!<\/p>\n<p>The cast is as follows: Carlene Travis \u2013 Mary Yackey;\u2028 Nita Mooney \u2013 Lisa Eichler;\u2028Mavis Flowers \u2013 Pat Howard;\u2028Crystal Hart \u2013 Mandy Fifer; Sugar Lee Thompkins \u2013 Terri Stevens;\u2028Bunny Sutherland \u2013 Rebecca Coleman;\u2028Bobby Dwayne Dillahunt \u2013 Dan Bulau; Porter Padgett \u2013 Ed Eichler\/Bud Preston*<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Director for the production is Amy Shoppell.<b>\u2028<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Hilarity abounds when the feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, decide to shake up their lives. The action in this rollicking Southern comedy takes place in the Spa-Dee-Dah!, an abandoned church-turned-day spa where this group of friends gathers every Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>After the loss of a dear friend, the women realize time is precious and, if they&#8217;re going to change their lives and achieve their dreams, they have to get on it now! But Sugar Lee, their high-spirited, determined leader, has her hands full keeping the women motivated.<\/p>\n<p>Carlene&#8217;s given up on romance, having buried three husbands; Nita&#8217;s a nervous wreck from running interference between her problematic son and his probation officer; Mavis&#8217; marriage is so stagnant she&#8217;s wondering how she can fake her own death to get out of it; and sweet, simple Crystal entertains them all, singing Christmas carols with her own, hilarious lyrics.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The comic tension mounts when a sexy ex-boyfriend shows up unexpectedly, a marriage proposal comes from an unlikely suitor and Sugar Lee&#8217;s arch rival vows she&#8217;ll stop at nothing to steal the spa away from her. By the time the women rally together to overcome these obstacles and launch their new, improved lives, theatre-goers have got a sidesplitting, joyful comedy that will make them laugh out loud and shout &#8220;Hallelujah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These authors are terrific! They have the perfect ear for Southern comedy.
