{"id":58019,"date":"2014-11-22T08:21:31","date_gmt":"2014-11-22T13:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=58019"},"modified":"2014-11-22T08:21:31","modified_gmt":"2014-11-22T13:21:31","slug":"patrol-investigating-fatal-accident-in-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/11\/22\/patrol-investigating-fatal-accident-in-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrol investigating fatal accident in area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Ohio State Highway Patrol information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>HICKSVILLE &#8212; The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash at approximately 9:21 p.m. on Ohio 2, a half mile east of Casebeer-Miller Road in Hicksville Township, Defiance County, near the village of Hicksville.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2340\" alt=\"osplogo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" width=\"97\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a>A 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by James Cummings, 41, of Hicksville, was eastbound on SR 2 and drove left of center into the westbound lane, striking a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Larry D. Geren, 48, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. After the impact, both vehicles came to rest off the north side of the roadway in a ditch.<\/p>\n<p>Cummings was pronounced dead at Hicksville Hospital, while Geren was treated at the scene. Cummings did not have a seat belt in use at the time of the crash; Geren was wearing his safety belt when the crash occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The Highway Patrol was assisted by Defiance County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Hicksville Police Department, and Hicksville Fire and EMS.
