{"id":58782,"date":"2014-12-17T09:00:57","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T14:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=58782"},"modified":"2014-12-18T08:47:16","modified_gmt":"2014-12-18T13:47:16","slug":"ywca-housing-program-rooms-get-needed-renovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/12\/17\/ywca-housing-program-rooms-get-needed-renovations\/","title":{"rendered":"YW Housing Program rooms get updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>DAVE MOSIER\/<\/b><i>independent editor<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Like the Ohio Department of Transportation\u2019s Adopt-A-Highway program, which provides manpower to help clean up stretches of Ohio\u2019s highways, the YWCA of Van Wert County\u2019s Adopt-A-Room project also had a specific purpose: to help update the YWCA\u2019s 18 rooms used to house those in the Transitional Housing and Domestic Violence programs at the YW.<\/p>\n<p>The response to the program was terrific, with businesses, organizations and individuals sponsoring one or more of the rooms to renovate the livin<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58783\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58783\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-58783 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"One of the renovated rooms at the YWCA of Van Wert County. (Dave Mosier\/Van Wert independent)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>g areas, including living and dining rooms used by women and children in the two housing programs.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsors for the YWCA\u2019s Adopt-A-Room project include Van Wert Federal Savings Bank, Max and Ilo Mercer and family, Scott and Cara Lee Campbell, Woodforest Bank, Eileen Lucier, Karli Turnwald and family, First Federal Savings &amp; Loan, Van Wert Rotary Club, YWCA Board of Directors, Amy Johns, Pamela Jewel-Rusk, Trinity United Methodist Church\u2019s Sunday school program, First Bank of Berne, the Van Wert Walmart store, Heidi Arney, Beth Bauer, Jill Welch and Judy Huebner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amount of time, money and effort that these groups and individuals have put towards our housing program makes a world of difference,\u201d said Chelli Gamble, case manager and coordinator of the Adopt-A-Room project.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cTheir (residents\u2019) bedroom is really the only private space they have to go,\u201d Gamble added. \u201cNow they can retreat to a comfortable, homey and inviting area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room makeovers included new paint, furnishings and accessories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing what a difference some paint, new bedding and up-to-date decorations will make,\u201d Gamble said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo see the ladies\u2019 faces as each room was revealed was rewarding,\u201d said YWCA Housing Director Jamie Evans, who said the YW had been working on the renovation project for several months. \u201cI am thrilled with the results. The outpouring from our sponsors has been phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The YWCA\u2019s housing program has been around as long as the YW itself, harkening back to 1917 when the YWCA first opened its doors.
