It has been a big week for Crestview students as they are preparing for Christmas break. With winter’s arrival but no snow, students are working hard to get into the Christmas spirit. FCCLA has had a busy schedule making sure events, such as Polar Express Night and their annual Christmas party, turn out well. The Penny War is now wrapping up after 7 days of donations. The entire music department worked together to put on a Christmas program for families and friends. Middle school students are giving a helping hand to people in need. With tomorrow being the last day for students before break, they are getting excited for an assembly with a band followed by 10 days off of school.

FCCLA has had a busy week with Polar Express Knight last Saturday that they put on for K-2grade children. Interested parents were able to sign up their child to attend the Polar Express Night. FCCLA planned an eventful night for the children while the parents were able to go finish Christmas shopping for a couple of hours. “We wanted to do something Christmas related that would be fun for younger kids. We did multiple activities with them and they loved it. It was a great experience getting to hang with the little kids and being very creative with the Polar Express theme,” stated senior Mackenzie Riggenbach. On Tuesday FCCLA had their annual Christmas party they put on for Ms. Reindel’s and Mrs. Deitering’s classes. They prepared breakfast, crafts, and even did some Christmas shopping for the students and their families.

The Penny War wrapped up last week. Thanks to Jim Wharton’s homeroom for bringing $81 in. They were awarded an ice cream party this week for raising the most money.

Monday the music department performed their Christmas concert in the auditera. Some songs included “I Need a Silent Night” and “Getting in the Mood.” Junior Kenadie Spieth said “I look forward to performing for the community and getting them in the Christmas spirit. My favorite number is “Merry Christmas, Darling.””

In middle school, the Day of Caring was yesterday. All middle school students and staff members, with the help of some NHS students, went caroling at Vancrest in Van Wert and Convoy. They also went to Wal-Mart to buy toys and clothes for people in need. “I like helping the middle school students help others because we are a very giving community and it’s a great feeling being a part of that,” said senior NHS member Kennis Mercer.

Not only is it the last week before break it’s also homecoming week. Spirit is all through the school with each day of the week having a different theme. Monday was Dress like a Teacher, Tuesday was Tacky Tourist, and Wednesday was Cowboys and Indians. Today’s theme is Christmas Spirit. With tomorrow being the homecoming game, the senior candidates running for homecoming queen are Vikki Callow, Courtney Trigg, and Mackenzie Riggenbach. The homecoming ceremony will begin after the junior varsity game on Friday. On Saturday, the homecoming dance will start at seven. All high school students can attend. The theme is Ugly Christmas Sweaters.

By Megan Hartman It has been a big week for Crestview students as they are preparing for Christmas break.
