The initiative, Below 100, focuses on five key areas that can improve officer safety and reduce deaths to an annual count that is below 100. Motorists can do their part by always moving over and obeying traffic safety laws.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, for the last 70 years, more than 100 police officers have been killed in the line-of-duty in the U.S. The number is often much higher, as an average of 145 officers were killed annually from 2009-2013.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2340\" alt=\"osplogo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" width=\"121\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The tenets of Below 100 are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wear your belt<\/li>\n<li>Wear your vest<\/li>\n<li>Watch your Speed<\/li>\n<li>Remember What\u2019s Important Now (WIN)<\/li>\n<li>Remember complacency kills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cTroopers attending the training will learn different behaviors that could save their own lives. We are asking the public to do what they can, too,\u201d said Lt.
