The lead was 28 points at the end of the third quarter, 50-22.

Crestview had three players in double figures, led by Kennis Mercer’s 16 points. Emily Bauer scored 15 points for the Knights, while Lindsey Motycka had 10 points and Paige Motycka added 9 points for Crestview.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Carly Clum’s 10 points – the only Allen East player in double figures.

The Knights were 23 of 53 from the field (43.4 percent), including 7 of 17 from three-point range (41.2 percent). Crestview made 16 of 22 (72.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

Allen East made 11 of 33 field goal attempts (33.3 percent), but was 0 for 9 from beyond the three-point line. The Mustangs made half of their free throws (5 of 10).

The Knights dominated on the boards, bringing down 37 rebounds to 15 for Allen East. Crestview had just five turnovers, while forcing the Mustangs into 17 miscues.

The Lady Cougars again did well against a quality opponent, but couldn’t close the game out, losing 38-35 in a Western Buckeye League contest held in the Cougars’ Den.

Van Wert scored 23 points in the first half, but could manage just 12 points in the second half, while the Lady Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

The Cougars led by a point, 12-11, at the end of the first eight minutes, and were up by three points, 23-20, at the half. Both teams had trouble offensively in the third quarter, scoring just 6 points apiece, and Van Wert maintained its three-point lead, 29-26, heading into the final stanza.

But while Defiance shook off its cold shooting from the third quarter, canning 12 points in the final period, the Cougars’ offensive woes continued as Van Wert had just two field goals and a pair of free throws in the quarter.

Alexis Dowdy led Van Wert with 12 points, while Alexa Dunlap and Erin Morrow both scored 8 points for the Cougars. Defiance’s Emily Poling led all scorers with 14 points, while Morgan Porter added 8 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

With the win, Defiance is 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the WBL, while the Cougars fall to 6-15 overall and 1-7 in league play.

The Van Wert junior varsity team pushed its record to 13-8 with a 41-34 win over the Bulldog JVs.

The Lincolnview Lady Lancers shot very well from the field, but too many fouls — and too many free throws made by Ada — led to a 56-51 Northwest Conference loss for the Lancers.

The Lancers were an excellent 21 of 38 from the field (55.3 percent), while making 6 of 11 three-point shots (54.5 percent). Lincolnview was less spectacular from the foul line, making just half of their six free-throw attempts.

Ada shot well from the field, making 17 of 35 field goal attempts (48.6 percent), and was 6 of 14 from three-point range (42.9 percent). But the Lady Bulldogs had 23 free throw attempts, and made 16 of those (69.6 percent), to garner the win.

Lincolnview had more rebounds, 21-16, but also turned the ball over more (9-3).

The Lady Lancers were led by Ashton Bowersock’s 18 points, while Hanna McCleery added 15 points for Lincolnview.
