{"id":60814,"date":"2015-02-16T02:23:47","date_gmt":"2015-02-16T07:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=60814"},"modified":"2015-02-16T02:23:47","modified_gmt":"2015-02-16T07:23:47","slug":"area-storm-causes-chain-reaction-crashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2015\/02\/16\/area-storm-causes-chain-reaction-crashes\/","title":{"rendered":"Area storm causes chain-reaction crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Ohio State Highway Patrol information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a series of weather related crashes that occurred Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The weather changed abruptly Saturday morning, leading to several hours of hazardous weather.\u00a0Snow started to fall, as well as an increase in wind speed, which created areas of severe low visibility and blowing snow.\u00a0This led to a string of chain-reaction crashes in Van Wert and Paulding counties.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2340\" alt=\"osplogo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" width=\"121\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>Starting at approximately 10:03 a.m., the Van Wert Post began receiving calls of multiple vehicle crashes for both Van Wert and Paulding counties.\u00a0Over the next five hours, calls of property damage and injury crashes were reported.\u00a0A total of 13 crash investigations were initiated, with 39 persons involved.\u00a0 There were 11 occupants treated and released at area hospitals with no significant injury being reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Ohio State Highway Patrol urges motorists to reduce speed in response to changing weather conditions and give adequate amount of following distance to allow for increased reaction time due to low visibility conditions.\u00a0In addition, if involved in a crash where visibility is diminished, always clear the roadway and move vehicles to the roadside.<\/p>\n<p>Assisting at the crash scenes were several local EMS and fire departments, including Delphos, Grover Hill, Middle Point, Ohio City, and Scott.\u00a0Delpha and Knippen\u2019s wrecker services of Delphos, Gideon\u2019s Towing and Recovery of Paulding and 2As and Parker-Mace of Van Wert assisted the Patrol with scene cleanup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ohio State Highway Patrol information The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a series of weather related crashes that occurred Saturday.
