(Kelsey Clemons\/Van Wert independent)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also accepted was the resignation of teacher Judy Wortman after 43 years of service to the district.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent Mike Estes updated the board on a visit to Columbus by Crestview students and teachers as part of a Straight A Grant delegation. Students and teachers were able to meet State Senator Cliff Hite and were invited to visit his office.\u00a0Estes said he thought the trip was a great opportunity for students to learn how state government works.<\/p>\n<p>The superintendent also reported on the district\u2019s calamity day situation, with its potential for make-up days later in the year, while also reminding board members of the Vantage All Boards Dinner coming up on Thursday, April 9.<\/p>\n<p>The board also discussed a March 11 countywide meeting concerning the College Credit Plus program. This program would replace both post-secondary education, as well as dual enrollment, for Crestview students.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The board also learned from board member Lonnie Nedderman about recognition for state athletic champions. Both teams and individuals who qualify will be recognized with a photo.<\/p>\n<p>In other action, the board:<\/p>\n<p>Read for the first time new, revised, deleted and\/or replacement Crestview board bylaws and policies.<\/p>\n<p>Employed Brad Hughes as a box van volunteer driver for the swing choir and band equipment truck, and Bob Perkins as a volunteer coach for high school softball for the 2014-2015 school year.<\/p>\n<p>The board also announces that Crestview parents will have the opportunity to provide suggestions or recommendations for special educational programs and services. Those who choose to do so should contact Program Service Director Keith Rydell and set up an appointment.<\/p>\n<p>In other action, the board also:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accepted the tax rates from Van Wert County Auditor Nancy Dixon.<\/li>\n<li>Approved Art Club activities for the 2014-2015 school year.<\/li>\n<li>Went into executive session to discuss personnel items, with no action taken afterwards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The next scheduled meeting for the Crestview Local Board of Education will take place Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m., in the district boardroom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KELSEY CLEMONS\/independent correspondent CONVOY &#8212; The Crestview Local Board of Education met Thursday for its regularly scheduled meeting and honored its high school Scholastic Bowl team coached by Sandra Grooms.
