Newlove worked with the students for two periods assisting them in preparation for their large group performance, which will take place on Saturday, March 7, at Celina High School. Students will be performing Cougar Mountain March, Along the Caney Fork, and Nathan Hale Trilogy beginning promptly at 2:45 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. This performance is, as all Lincolnview high school band performances are, open to the public. A very special thank you to Dane Newlove for coming to share his knowledge and teaching!<\/p>\n<p>This year in celebration of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss\u2019s birthday, Lincolnview Elementary has chosen \u201cOh the Places You\u2019ll Go When You Read!\u201d as the theme for their celebration.\u00a0 On March 3, students K-6 will be participating in a dress-up day as something they want to be when they grow up.\u00a0 Each student will also enjoy special Dr. Seuss decorated cookies as a treat.\u00a0 The students have worked on a display for the hall themed after the book \u201cOh, the Places You\u2019ll Go\u201d with hot air balloons and a writing exercise describing what they want to be.\u00a0 A special reading of the book will also occur during the day for the students.\u00a0 Be sure and stop in and see the wonderful display.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_61162\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61162\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Marcy.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61162 \" style=\"border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;\" alt=\"Lincolnview\/Vantage junior Marcy Shoppell was recognized at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Ceremony for the third year in a row. (Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Feb. 8 at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., Lincolnview\/Vantage junior Marcy Shoppell was recognized at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Ceremony for the third year in a row. This event has become the nation\u2019s largest source of scholarships for creative teen artists and writers and is the nation\u2019s longest running and prestigious recognition program for students in grades 7-12. This year a record was broken for the total number of entries ever with 1,697 pieces of writing being submitted from 52 counties in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. Marcy was talented enough to earn one of these awards with her piece titled, \u201cThe Countdown,\u201d which earned her the second highest honor, the Silver Key.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_61161\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61161\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/mazza-museum-photo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61161 \" style=\"border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;\" alt=\"Students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade gifted education program spent three months participating in a Mock Caldecott Election.
