{"id":61252,"date":"2015-02-28T08:24:52","date_gmt":"2015-02-28T13:24:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=61252"},"modified":"2015-02-28T08:24:52","modified_gmt":"2015-02-28T13:24:52","slug":"congressional-art-competition-planned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2015\/02\/28\/congressional-art-competition-planned\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressional Art Competition planned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>VW independent\/submitted information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Ohio) has announced the opening of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition, encouraging high school students in Ohio\u2019s Fifth Congressional District to submit their original artwork for the chance to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Congressional Art Competition is a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase the wealth of artistic talent in Ohio\u2019s Fifth Congressional District,\u201d said Latta. \u201cI encourage all high school students to submit their artwork this year and look forward to seeing our district\u2019s artwork on display in the United States Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All artwork will be on display at the\u00a0Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery in the University of Findlay&#8217;s Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion from April 27 through May 2.\u00a0The winners of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition will be announced at a reception held in the Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion on Saturday, May 2. The overall winner will have his or her artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside the artwork from other nationwide contestants. In addition, three honorable mentions will also be announced and displayed in Congressman Latta&#8217;s district offices.<\/p>\n<p>Each student is allowed one entry.\u00a0Eligible artwork includes the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers<\/li>\n<li>Collage: must be two-dimensional<\/li>\n<li>Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints<\/li>\n<li>Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums, such as pencil, ink, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Computer Generated Art<\/li>\n<li>Photography<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The deadline for students to submit their artwork is Wednesday, April 1. Applicants can drop off their\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/latta.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/2015_art_competition_application.pdf\">application<\/a>\u00a0and artwork at one of the Congressman\u2019s district offices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Bowling Green\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 1045 N.
