(Photo submitted.)

This year at Lincolnview, Kirstie Schroeder’s Service-Learning class has been learning about our world and community both in the classroom and out in the community. Throughout the school year, Lincolnview’s Service-Learning class has been working on a variety of projects. A recent unit the class completed on recycling led to a service project of recycling the school’s cans. Last week, Schroeder’s students went to the recycling center to recycle pop cans that the teachers at Lincolnview have been donating to them. With the money the class earned recycling, they went to the grocery store to buy nonperishable food items that will be donated to a local food pantry.

Besides recycling the school’s cans, the class has done other projects this year. The class’s first project was packing and decorating snack bags to send with the band students at their first competition. An ongoing service to the school is changing the words on the sign in front of the school which the class has done periodically throughout this school year. Also, the students go to the grocery store twice a month where they have been learning valuable skills such as reading labels, comparing prices and brands, and staying within a budget. The students also enjoy reading books to the Kindergarteners once a week.

Our class continues to be on the lookout for more ways to learn about and serve the great community that we live in!

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-63100 " style="border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" alt="Popsicle bridge test.
