Ohio&#8217;s nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 2,200 over the month, from the revised 5,078,100 in February to 5,080,300 in March.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6455\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Ohio-US-unemployment-tables-3-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Ohio-US-unemployment-tables-3-2011.jpg 320w, https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Ohio-US-unemployment-tables-3-2011-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in March was 526,000, down from 542,000 in February. The number of unemployed has decreased by 93,000 in the past 12 months from 619,000. The March unemployment rate for Ohio was down from 10.5 percent in March 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. unemployment rate for March was 8.8 percent, down from 8.9 percent in February.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Total Nonagricultural Wage and Salary Employment (Seasonally Adjusted)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ohio&#8217;s nonfarm payroll employment increased 2,200 over the month, from 5,078,100 in February to 5,080,300 in March, according to the latest business establishment survey conducted by ODJFS.<\/p>\n<p>Goods-producing industries, at 809,300, were up 5,600 from February, driven by a gain in manufacturing (+7,100). Mining and logging also experienced slight growth (+300), but construction declined 1,800. Service-providing industries decreased 3,400 over the month. The most significant loss occurred in trade, transportation, and utilities (-4,200). Other industries losing jobs included government (-1,500), leisure and hospitality (-1,400), and information (-1,200). Educational and health services (+3,400), professional and business services (+800), financial activities (+500), and other services (+200) experienced over-the-month gains.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 12 months, nonagricultural wage and salary employment advanced 65,700. Service-providing industries added 51,900 jobs. The most notable gains occurred in educational and health services (+22,600) and professional and business services (+19,400). Other industries that experienced growth included leisure and hospitality (+13,000), other services (+5,600), and financial activities (+300). Losses occurred in government (-5,400), information (-1,900), and trade, transportation, and utilities (-1,700). Goods-producing industries increased 13,800 over the year. Manufacturing added 14,000 jobs, as a gain in durable goods (+17,100) exceeded a loss in nondurable goods (-3,100).
