The Van Wert Airport has begun a taxiway rehab project that could last up to three weeks and is part of an airport improvement plan that will bring pavement surfaces there up to compliance standards. This is a federal grant project costing an estimated $175,000 that will be covered 90 percent by the Aviation Trust Fund, operated through various aviation taxes collected nationally. Van Wert is a part of the FAA’s National Plan of Integrated Airport System (NPIAS) and was recently reclassified as a NPIAS local GA airport. The classification states the local airport \u201cSupplements local communities by providing access primarily to intrastate and some interstate markets.\u201d\u00a0This project will bring the airport to near 100 percent compliance with Airport Improvement Program Grant requirements and will pave the way for greater cooperation and help toward additional federal grant consideration.
