{"id":65768,"date":"2015-07-13T06:54:35","date_gmt":"2015-07-13T11:54:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=65768"},"modified":"2015-07-15T07:48:10","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T12:48:10","slug":"vw-marlins-7th-at-woal-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2015\/07\/13\/vw-marlins-7th-at-woal-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"VW Marlins 7th at WOAL championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Van Wert Marlins information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>WAPAKONETA &#8212; On July 10-11 the YMCA Marlins traveled to Wapakoneta, joining over 600 swimmers to compete in the 33rd annual Western Ohio Aquatic League (WOAL) championships.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing the short regular season at 2-5, the Marlins placed seventh in the eight-team championship meet. (photo submitted)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Burenga-swims-50-meter-backstroke-7-2015.jpg\" width=\"330\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65769\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Jamie Burenga swimming in the 50-meter back-stroke.<\/strong> <em>(photo submitted)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Leading the way in points for Van Wert was Jamie Burenga with 73 points and a first-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, second place in the 100-meter individual medley and third in the 50-meter breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Jayden Welker scored 60 points and placed second in the 50-meter butterfly, fourth in the 50-meter backstroke, and fifth in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter IM and 50-meter breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Katie McVaigh also scored 60 points, and placed third in the 50-meter butterfly and 50-meter backstroke, fourth in 100-meter IM and sixth in the 50-meter freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Mandy Burenga was the only other first place finisher, winning the 25-meter breaststroke. Sam Houg brought home two second-place finishes in the 25-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle. Tyra McClain grabbed second in the 50-meter backstroke and 100-meter freestyle and was third in the 100-meter IM.<\/p>\n<p>The Marlins thanked their head coach, Trey Stemen, and assistant coaches Evan Stant, Eric Easley and Hannah Stemen for a great summer season.<\/p>\n<p><b><!--more-->Detailed results<\/b> (All distances are meters; finishers in first through sixth-place are awarded medals)<\/p>\n<p><b>8 &amp; Under Girls:<\/b>\u00a0 Olivia Bockey \u2013 27<sup>th<\/sup> 50 Free; 36<sup>th<\/sup> 25 Free; 37<sup>th<\/sup> 25 Back.
