The Lincolnview Lancer cross country teams started their season off at the Blue Jay Invitational in Delphos on Saturday. Both teams got off to a great start, with the girls team taking home the runner-up trophy with a second-place finish behind Liberty Benton and one point ahead of county rival Van Wert. The boys placed third behind Division III No. 5 preseason-ranked Anna and Van Wert.

Senior Anna Gorman, who placed eighth overall in a time of 20:53, led the girls’ team. She was followed by freshman Brayden Langdon, who placed 13th (21:13). Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Lancers was Abbie Enyart (17th), Rylee Byrne (18th), and Alena Looser (31st). Madeline Snyder (34th) and Trinity Welch (57th) complete the varsity scorers for the Lancers.

“The girls had a tremendous start; they have been working extremely hard and we knew that we could compete at a high level,” said Lincolnview Coach Matt Langdon. “Today validated all of the summer miles and hard work.

“The exciting part is that we have only scratched the service of our potential,” Coach Langdon said. “Three of my top six just ran their first varsity race, so it will be fun to watch them learn and improve. Now we begin the process of learning how to win and stay consistent. The girls left the meet all smiles.”

The boys’ team had a strong pack finish and was led by senior Trevor Neate, who placed 12th overall in a time of 17:43. He was closely followed by teammates Karter Tow, a freshman who placed 14th (17:48); Austin Elick, 16th (17:51); Andrew Fickert, 20th (17:57); Alek Bowersock, 29th (18:19); Colton Snyder, 31st (18:23); and Jacob Keysor, 51st (19:11).

“The boys had a good start to their season (but) we are a much different team than last year,” said Coach Langdon. “Losing two individual state qualifiers in Bayley Tow and Alex Rodriguez is tough to replace; however, we have a strong pack and the boys have worked incredibly hard to get themselves to this position.

“A lot of people counted them out, given the runners that did not return from last season, but I think that has just fueled them to prove everyone wrong,” the Lancer coach added. “I have seen it all summer and it is good to now see it on the course. I couldn’t be more proud of them at this point. We have a lot of work to do, but it’s nice to get off to a solid start.”

Complete results can be found at www.baumspage.com

The Lancers will next be competing the Wayne Trace Invitational in Grover Hill on Tuesday night.

Lincolnview cross country information DELPHOS —
