The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.erieinsurance.com\/lookinout\/GettingStarted\/Activities\/SafetyBug.html\">Lookin\u2019 Out Safety Bug<\/a> is a custom engineered Volkswagen Beetle that allows drivers the real life experience of driving while impaired, without the real life risk.\u00a0 Licensed drivers experience the loss of control an individual would realize if attempting to operate an automobile while in an impaired state.\u00a0Officers from Ohio State Highway Patrol will also be on hand to talk to students at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Lookin\u2019 Out Safety Bug is just one aspect of the Erie Insurance Lookin\u2019 Out program, a safe teen driving initiative in which positive messages are created by students for their friends. Lookin\u2019 Out seeks to educate young drivers and save lives. The Lookin\u2019 Out committees at each school have been working with their Erie Insurance Agent Advisor, Krista Schlemmer, of the Leland Smith Insurance Agency, to help educate their peers about the dangers teens face on the road. The Lookin\u2019 Out Safety Bug is operated by the Pennsylvania DUI Association in partnership with Erie Insurance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6979\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6979\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6979 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/4-27-11-lancerlines.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6979\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">   Pictured are Kylie Hohman and Alek Bowersock.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While studying plate tectonics in fourth-grade science, students enjoy using graham crackers and frosting to represent earth&#8217;s plates and melted rock. The experiment simulates the movements the earth makes to create earthquakes, volcanoes, and the building of mountains.<\/p>\n<p>Jr. High yearbooks, <em>Out of the Blue (and Gold)<\/em>, will be on sale throughout April.
