CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education took several personnel actions and also heard about some possible exterior projects the district could undertake during a brief meeting held Thursday at the school complex.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Mike Estes first thanked Crestview voters for again renewing the district\u2019s 5-mill continuing levy earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a community that\u2019s always been supportive of this district \u2026 and we value that support, and, hopefully, we\u2019re earning it every day,\u201d Estes noted.<\/p>\n

The board also approved a resolution later in the meeting thanking voters for approving the levy.<\/p>\n

Estes noted that the district also would again not collect the district\u2019s emergency operating levy, and also plans to not seek renewal of the levy when it comes up for renewal.<\/p>\n

The superintendent said he has also prepared a form seeking architectural services to proceed with a feasibility study on the possibility of undertaking some exterior construction\/renovation projects at the school complex. Estes added that first-responders are now signing off on the district\u2019s emergency plan, with Van Wert County Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy already doing so. When all sign-offs are completed, the plan can be sent in to the state.<\/p>\n

Middle School Principal Dave Bowen commended those involved in the school\u2019s Veterans Day programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur students did an outstanding job,\u201d Bowen said, adding that he hoped the programs could lead to the start of a new tradition at Crestview.<\/p>\n

Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf talked about testing activities, noting the completion of Stanford tests, with more testing scheduled to take place in the near future. She also noted the school held its DARE graduation this week.<\/p>\n

Mollenkopf and Bowen also talked about upcoming parent-teacher conferences, with Mollenkopf saying she hoped there would be good attendance at the conferences.<\/p>\n

In personnel action, the board approved a one-year contract as a high school paraprofessional for Daniel Foust, while also approving family leave under the Family & Medical Leave Act for two staff members, Jackie Deitering and Alicia Perrott, who plan to take extra time while on maternity leave.<\/p>\n

The board also learned that Meghan Henry would be reassigned to the position of technology paraprofessional, effective November 30, and approved Jordan Miller as a middle school track coach.<\/p>\n

Several board members also talked about their experiences at this year\u2019s Capital Conference, while incoming board member Andy Perrott also attended the November meeting.<\/p>\n

In other action, the board:<\/p>\n

  • Approved the Crestview Indoor Track Club\/SWEAT as a school club to be coached by board-approved middle and high school volunteer coaches.<\/li>\n
  • Approved a first reading of new and revised policies, as recommended by NEOLA Inc.<\/li>\n
  • Changed the time of the December board meeting to 7:30 p.m. to allow time for the annual board Christmas dinner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
