Owens announces he has filed petitions to run for re-election for a second term as Van Wert County commissioner. Owens is seeking the Republican nomination for the January 3, 2017, term.<\/p>\n<p>Owens is a native of Van Wert County and a 1972 graduate of Crestview High School. He is the son of Ervin E. and Iva Lou (Laukhuf) Owens.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19035\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19035\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Owens-Stan-1-2012.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-19035  \" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"Stan Owens\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Owens-Stan-1-2012.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"345\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19035\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Stan Owens<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Conservative values, experience in budget management, and overall administrative experience are just a few of the credentials earned during Owens\u2019 services as former Van Wert County sheriff and his three years as county commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>Owens\u2019 principle throughout his service is to bring a common sense approach to issues while working together to produce positive solutions. He firmly believes in standing by his principles and beliefs, along with an attitude of fairness.<\/p>\n<p>Being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars is paramount, along with putting resources in place to promote economic growth for Van Wert County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVan Wert County elected officials and department heads have done an excellent job in managing their budgets with an attitude of cooperation,\u201d Owens noted. \u201cToday, Van Wert County\u2019s general fund is in good shape, due to these officials\u2019 efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Owes believes that managing and maintaining a solid general fund is essential for county government services\u2019 funding needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA major objective of the Van Wert County commissioners\u2019 office is working with the new incoming Van Wert city administration to create a united economic development program for Van Wert County,\u201d Owens said. \u201cMy fellow commissioners and I are totally committed to this endeavor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Owens\u2019 board assignments as commissioner included Van Wert Solid Waste District, Northwest Ohio Community Action Commission, Board of Tax Revisions, Public Entity Risk Consortium trustee, County Investment Committee, Family and Children First Consortium, Van Wert County Regional Airport (ex officio) and the Public Defender Commission (ex officio).<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Owens also is a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau, Township Trustees Association, the National Rifle Association, and County Commissioners\u2019 Association.<\/p>\n<p>Owens, who is involved in a family grain farming operation with his son, brother, and nephew, resides in Harrison Township on the family farm with his wife, Susan, and son Nathan. He and his wife have four children, four grandchildren, and four stepgrandchildren.
