Van Wert swim team information<\/i><\/p>\n

CELINA — The Cougar swim team traveled to the Auglaize-Mercer County YMCA for the annual Wapakoneta\/Celina invitational involving 21 teams, including eight Western Buckeye League schools.<\/p>\n

The boys took eighth place, while the girls finished 14th. Jay County High School took first place for the girls, with Wapakoneta emerging as the boys\u2019 champion, with Lima Shawnee taking runner-up for the boys and girls events.<\/p>\n

Other schools participating (in order of finish in the boys\u2019 standings) included Celina, Ottawa-Glandorf, Minster, Ada, Lima Bath, Coldwater, Bellefontaine, New Bremen, Lima Central Catholic, St. Marys Memorial, Marion Local, Elida, Fort Recovery, St. Henry, Winchester, and Leipsic.<\/p>\n

Highlights of the boys\u2019 day included Sam Easley scoring second place in the 100-yard butterfly, Joe Linser in the 500-yard freestyle, and Cade Fleming in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. Easley, earning a time of 56.48, beat the school record with his finish in the 100-yard butterfly race.\u00a0\u00a0 Scoring for the Cougar girls were Madison Turnwald in the 200-yard freestyle, Katie Trittschuh in the 200-yard freestyle, Peyton Fleming in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, Jena Rex-LaRue in the 500-yard freestyle, Emma Verville in the 200-yard backstroke, and Bethany Fast in the 100-yard breaststroke.<\/p>\n

All three boys\u2019 \u201cA\u201d relay teams scored. The best finishes were the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:58.56 \u2013 Noah Arend, Cory Pinson, Cade Fleming, Sam Easley) earning seventh place and a eighth-place finish by the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.30 \u2013 Dalton Heppeard, Fleming, Easley, Pinson), followed with the 200-yard freestyle relay earning a ninth place finish (1:47.39 \u2013 Stephen Hamblett, Pinson, Heppeard, Easley).<\/p>\n

Two girls\u2019 \u201cA\u201d relay teams scored. The best finish was recorded by the 400-yard freestyle relay with Chloe Brake, Peyton Fleming, Madison Turnwald, Bethany Fast claiming 10th place. Also, the 200-yard medley relay with Emma Verville, Bethany Fast, Fleming, and Turnwald earning a respectable 15th place.<\/p>\n

The next meet for the Cougars will be a dual meet at Ayersville High School on January 19.<\/p>\n
