(Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Van Wert Area Photography Club members Randy Shellenbarger, Mike Taylor, and Stuart Jewett braved the elements\u00a0to take an early morning trip to Defiance\u00a0in\u00a0search of eagles on Saturday, Jan. 23.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stuart had his Nikon D600,\u00a0with a\u00a0Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens.\u00a0 Mike used his Nikon 3200 with a\u00a0 Sigma 150-500 f 5.6 lens and Randy packed a Sigma 120-400mm lens with his Sony A77\u00a0 camera, which had\u00a0 internal doubling capabilities.\u00a0This gave him the\u00a0equivalent\u00a0of a 1200mm lens.<\/p>\n<p>As it turned out, Randy was the only one with enough lens to get a decent shot because the birds were\u00a0estimated by Mike to be 400 to 500 yards from the men.\u00a0 Mike, however,\u00a0was able to do some cropping in post editing\u00a0to produce some acceptable\u00a0pictures.\u00a0\u00a0 Stuart had to settle for enjoying what he could see, and taking\u00a0a photo of\u00a0four Volkswagons stacked on top of each other to decorate a\u00a0security light at Pack Rats in Defiance.\u00a0\u00a0 Fifteen eagles were counted at the Power Dam,\u00a0and another two adults at Independence Dam.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Van Wert Area Photography Club is planning a field trip for members on Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. to Ottoville, where they&#8217;ll be given a\u00a0tour of a photography studio originally started in the 1890s, with all the old equipment still in place.\u00a0\u00a0 Jim Niedecken is the current owner. His father before him, and grandfather before that started and ran the photo studio.
