The campaign is similar to one initiated in Van Wert County a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the initiative is to provide smoke alarms to each student of Payne Elementary and Divine Mercy schools. That would mean supplying 350 smoke alarms to the students and their families, making sure those homes in the community are equipped with working smoke alarms.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Smoke-detector-3-2011.jpg\" alt=\"Smoke detector 3-2011\" width=\"200\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Smoke-detector-3-2011.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Smoke-detector-3-2011-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>\u201cWe at the Payne Fire Department are thrilled to be launching this project,\u201d said Fire Chief Jamie Mansfield. \u201cWith the backing of the state fire marshal, we are committed to making sure every home and family in our area is protected with working smoke alarms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is being supported by the State Fire Marshal\u2019s Office and the American Red Cross, and both organizations will assist with canvassing and distributing the smoke alarms in April of this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Child Sleeps Unprotected is a project with the same goal as our office\u2019s Safe &amp; Sound campaign,\u201d said State Fire Marshal Larry L. Flowers. \u201cI extend my sincere gratitude to the Payne Fire Department and the Paulding County Area Foundation for taking on this initiative in the name of the community\u2019s safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monetary donations for this drive will be handled by the Paulding County Area Foundation, which has kicked off the project with a $500 donation.
