{"id":73410,"date":"2016-02-13T09:29:22","date_gmt":"2016-02-13T14:29:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=73410"},"modified":"2016-02-13T09:29:52","modified_gmt":"2016-02-13T14:29:52","slug":"latta-announces-congressional-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/02\/13\/latta-announces-congressional-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta announces Congressional contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. &#8212;\u00a0U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) has announced the opening of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition, encouraging high school students in Ohio\u2019s Fifth Congressional District to submit their original artwork for the chance to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Congressional Art Competition is a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase the wealth of artistic talent in Ohio\u2019s Fifth District,\u201d said Latta. \u201cI encourage all high school students to submit their artwork this year and look forward to seeing our district\u2019s artwork on display in the United States Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All artwork will be on display at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, the Fisher Wall Art Gallery, 200 W. Main Cross St. in Findlay\u00a0from April 3-23.\u00a0The winners of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition will be announced at a reception on Saturday, April 23.<\/p>\n<p>The overall winner will have his or her artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, alongside artwork from other nationwide contestants. In addition, three honorable mentions will also be announced and displayed in Latta&#8217;s district offices.<\/p>\n<p>Each student is allowed one entry.\u00a0Eligible artwork includes the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers<\/li>\n<li>Collage: must be two-dimensional<\/li>\n<li>Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints<\/li>\n<li>Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Computer generated art<\/li>\n<li>Photography<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The deadline for students to submit their artwork is noon on Friday, March 25. Applicants can drop off their entry form and artwork at one of the following district offices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bowling Green\u00a0\u2013 1045 N. Main Street, Suite 6, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402<\/li>\n<li>Defiance\u00a0\u2013 101 Clinton Street, Suite 1200, Defiance, Ohio 43512<\/li>\n<li>Findlay\u00a0\u2013 318 Dorney Plaza, Room 302, Findlay, Ohio 45840<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>District staff is also available to pick up artwork from students.
