The Van Wert County Historical Society will be opening its doors for the 2016\u00a0season on Sunday, March\u00a06. The museum grounds will be open each Sunday from 2-4:30 p.m. through mid-November.<\/p>\n

The 2016\u00a0program offers events and activities for all ages and\u00a0interests.\u00a0Be\u00a0on the lookout for a new addition to the\u00a0museum\u00a0grounds this\u00a0spring.\u00a0The\u00a0kids will be “On Board” for the museum grounds\u2019 newest\u00a0addition.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0much anticipation, the Historical Society is excited to unveil the fully restored 1917 Overland Opera\u00a0Coupe automobile.\u00a0Dave\u00a0Agler and\u00a0Larry\u00a0Oechsle have painstakingly labored for the past two years to rebuild and\u00a0restore\u00a0this\u00a0treasure.\u00a0Area residents should keep their\u00a0eyes open during the Peony and Fourth of July\u00a0activities\u00a0for a glimpse of this fantastic\u00a0automobile. Lastly, kids need to be ready for new\u00a0activities\u00a0and a display\u00a0designed\u00a0to\u00a0interact\u00a0with history.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Historical Society\u2019s speaker series will highlight gems of Van Wert County topics, to include: Wassenberg Art Center (April 10), Collins Fine Foods (May 15), Brumback Library (September 11), Vantage\u00a0Career\u00a0Center (October 9) and, lastly, highlights of the Overland Opera\u00a0Coupe\u00a0restoration (November 13).<\/p>\n

All\u00a0presentations\u00a0are\u00a0made on\u00a0Sundays in the\u00a0Museum\u00a0Annex, beginning at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

Plan on\u00a0joining\u00a0the Historical Society for its annual Holiday at\u00a0Home Fourth of July celebration.\u00a0Enjoy\u00a0free music,\u00a0magic, food, crafts,\u00a0and lots of kid-friendly\u00a0activities.<\/p>\n

At\u00a0the end of July (July 29-31) head out to the Van Wert County\u00a0Fairgrounds\u00a0for one of the\u00a0largest\u00a0summer train shows in the\u00a0tri-state\u00a0area.\u00a0In\u00a0August, the\u00a0Jon\u00a0Amundson Crossroads of American Antique Tractor Ride (August 6)\u00a0will take\u00a0to the county\u00a0roads.\u00a0Then\u00a0wrap up your summer with the Fall Chicken Fundraiser\u00a0Dinner\u00a0(October 8) and the Membership\u00a0Party\u00a0on October 23, the historical museum\u00a0family will be celebrating\u00a0Van Wert namesake Isaac\u00a0Van\u00a0Wart\u2019s\u00a0birthday.<\/p>\n

Crafters get ready for\u00a0\u201cNight in the Museum\u201d activities. Spend a few hours crafting with Fran\u00a0Neiswander.\u00a0Events\u00a0include\u00a0\u201cEggs-travaganza\u201d, paper flowers, miniature gardens, spring cards, miniature barn quilts, felting, \u201cOut of Your Gourd\u201d, and\u00a0Christmas.<\/p>\n

Dates and time will be posted at the museum, on the Historical Society website, and\u00a0in the local newspapers.\u00a0Be sure to register, as\u00a0these events\u00a0fill up.<\/p>\n

Remember, the annex is also a great place for small groups to hold meetings.
