A Van Wert man sentenced to prison on sex-related charges was one of 10 people who appeared for hearings Wednesday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.<\/p>\n

\"CourtDavid Boff Jr., 21, was sentenced 60 months in prison by Judge Martin Burchfield on each of three counts of gross sexual imposition, each a felony of the third degree. The sentences are to run concurrent to each other and to a prison sentence he is currently serving. Boff was also given 178 days credit for time already served.<\/p>\n

Arthur Halas, 23, of Celina, entered a not guilty plea to a charge of theft, a felony of the fifth degree, during his arraignment Wednesday. He was released on a personal surety bond, with the condition that he have no contact with the alleged victim in the case. Judge Burchfield scheduled a pretrial conference in the case for 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 23.<\/p>\n

Five people also appeared for plea change hearings on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Charles Purdy II, 27, of St. Marys, pleaded guilty to a charge of importuning, a felony of the fifth degree. Another count of importuning, also a fifth-degree felony, and a count of criminal child enticement, a misdemeanor of the first degree, were dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea. Judge Burchfield ordered a presentence investigation and Purdy will appear for sentencing at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 30.<\/p>\n

Amanda Buzard, 32, of Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of heroin, a felony of the fifth degree. A second charge of possession of drugs, also a fifth-degree felony, was dismissed in exchange for her guilty plea. She also admitted to violating her probation by testing positive for drugs, failing to report to probation, and failing to complete counseling at Westwood Behavioral Health Center in Van Wert.<\/p>\n

Judge Burchfield continued the case until 9 a.m. March 30 and set a $10,000 cash bond in the case.<\/p>\n

Lorenzo Frye, 27, of Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to a charge of domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree (downgraded from domestic violence, a felony of the third degree). Judge Burchfield ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for 9 a.m. March 30.<\/p>\n

Sara Boroff, 33, of Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to a charge of trafficking in heroin, a felony of the fifth degree (reduced from a fourth-degree felony). Judge Burchfield ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for 9 a.m. March 30.<\/p>\n

Wesley Elam, 23, of Celina, entered a \u201cno contest\u201d plea to a prosecutor\u2019s bill of information charging him with trespassing in a habitation, a felony of the fourth degree, a Judge Burchfield found him guilty of the new charge. A previous charge of burglary, a felony of the second degree, was dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea.<\/p>\n

Judge Burchfield ordered a presentence investigation, and Elam will appear for sentencing at 9 a.m. March 30.<\/p>\n

Also Wednesday, Bobby Burnett, 21, of Van Wert, admitted to violating his treatment in lieu of conviction program by failing a drug test. Judge Burchfield scheduled sentencing in the case for 9 a.m. March 30 and set a $50,000 cash bond.<\/p>\n

Van Wert County Probate-Juvenile Court Judge Kevin Taylor also presided over two probation violation hearings on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Joe Quevedo, 51, of Van Wert, admitted to violating his probation by violating a law and possessing controlled substances. He was given three years of community control under the same conditions as before, and also ordered to serve 30 days in jail immediately.<\/p>\n

Tiffany Dearing, 31, of Van Wert, appeared for a hearing after she denied violating her probation. At the hearing she then admitted to the violation and was sentenced by Judge Taylor to one year of community control, under the same conditions as before, plus a new condition that she complete an inpatient treatment program and related aftercare program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
