This is a non-profit, humanitarian, food-aid organization that feeds hungry children around the world and here in the United States. This Sunday, April 10, from 2-4 p.m. in the auditeria, Crestview students will be packaging meals for kids in Haiti. Throughout the past month, members of NHS and scholastic bowl have been recruiting people to help work, as well as raising money to reach their goal of $3,500. This will allow them to create 14,000 meals. “Local businesses have played a huge part with their donations because it’s allowed us to make this become a reality,” said Ford Tatum. Overall, this has been a student-lead project with them in charge of fundraising, publicity, and set up/clean up.

As the school year winds down, with less than two months to go, student council is busy planning end of the year activities. They will host an air jam, or more commonly known as a lip sync, on April 29 at 2 p.m. Groups of students or faculty can put on a performance of their choice in front of the middle and high school student body, and a winner will be chosen by the judge’s panel, consisting of three teachers. “It’s exciting to finish out the year with several fun activities like these,” said Claire Zaleski. They will also put on their annual “fun day” for both middle and high school students. The Knights will enjoy a day of relay/obstacle course games, an egg toss, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, tug of war, and a three-legged race. High School will have theirs May 13, and Middle School’s is the last day of school, May 26. Relay for Life is scheduled for May 16 for all middle and high school students and teachers to attend.

Due to the excessive amounts of rain and cold temperatures, spring sports have not been able to compete as much as they’d like to. Several games and meets have been cancelled due to the weather. However, the boys’ track team was able to attend their first meet last Saturday at Versailles. They finished fifth out of nine teams to start out their season. On the softball field, the Lady Knights started out with a strong 3-0 record to their season, but they are frustrated with the weather as well. “It’s extremely frustrating because softball is an outdoor sport, but we constantly have to practice inside due to the weather. We’re all getting really bored with being inside all the time so it’s hard to have fun at practice sometimes,” said Kristen Etzler. Hopefully more games will be able to be played soon.

By Haley Helm Crestview’s National Honor Society and Scholastic Bowl have partnered up with the Kids Against Hunger Organization in Fort Wayne.
