(Photo caption.)

Last Sunday, National Honor Society and Scholastic Bowl’s event with Kids Against Hunger was a success. Roughly 60 students came together and packaged around 15,000 meals for people in Haiti. There were five assembly lines with about 11 students at each creating the packages. Stations included adding food into a bag, weighing the bag to make sure it met the requirements, sealing it, and packing them into boxes. Students enjoyed their time together working for a good cause. “I’m very proud of my school and how we came together to support this organization,” said Katie McClure.

Crestview’s FCCLA organization is starting to wrap up its 2015-16 activities. At their most recent meeting, they received nominations for new officers next year. Students were able to run for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, historian, and student council representative. An election will take place within the next couple of weeks, and on May 6 they will be inducted as the new officers. “I feel very confident in the new president nominee, which is Braden Van Cleave. He has shown tremendous strength in the areas of leadership and service,” said current president Brady Guest. FCCLA will have a pizza party during lunch as well as the induction ceremony on May 6.

Throughout the last couple weeks, students have been taking their end of the year tests. These are post-tests to show growth in the student’s learning throughout the year. At the beginning of the year they took the exact same test, and the goal is to improve by a certain amount. It is essentially an evaluation on the teachers, but some students still feel pressure put on them to do well. Others though, are more focused on other bigger tests. “I’m not too concerned with the SLOs because I’ve been having other more important tests to study for, like the ACT and AP tests,” said Sydney Bowen.

By Haley Helm Last Sunday, National Honor Society and Scholastic Bowl’s event with Kids Against Hunger was a success.
