{"id":75401,"date":"2016-04-15T08:27:20","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T13:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=75401"},"modified":"2016-04-16T08:05:08","modified_gmt":"2016-04-16T13:05:08","slug":"mccracken-to-play-baseball-for-wv-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/04\/15\/mccracken-to-play-baseball-for-wv-school\/","title":{"rendered":"McCracken to play baseball for WV school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DAVE MOSIER\/<\/strong><em>independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Van Wert baseball standout Ryan McCracken is headed south to West Virginia after graduation to play ball for the Pioneers of Glenville State College.<\/p>\n<p>McCracken, the Cougars\u2019 starting catcher the past two years, will be competing for that job at Glenville for Head Coach James Mullins.<\/p>\n<p>McCracken is a good defensive catcher, throwing out 4 of 9 runners this season and 25 percent of all runners who try to steal against him.<\/p>\n<p>While he had a batting slump last year, hitting under .200 for the season, he is batting .263 this season.<\/p>\n<p>McCracken said he is looking forward to playing for the Pioneers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really like the program there,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot like our program here, so it should be an easy transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glenville State is an NCAA Division II school that plays in the Mountain East Conference, so McCracken will likely face a couple of Ohio schools, including Urbana University.<\/p>\n<p>Mullins, now in his third year at Glenville State, is building a Pioneers baseball program, with some successes, including doubling his wins last year, from the 9 he had two years ago to 18 in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Glenville State\u2019s baseball program also has an area connection, since Assistant Coach Neil Schaffner is a Willshire native and a graduate of Parkway High School.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75402\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75402\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Ryan-McCracken-letter-signing-4-14-16.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-75402\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75402\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Ryan-McCracken-letter-signing-4-14-16.jpg\" alt=\"Ryan McCracken (seated, second from left) signs his letter of intent to play baseball for the Glenville State College Pioneers.
