{"id":75871,"date":"2016-04-29T08:25:06","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T13:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=75871"},"modified":"2016-04-29T08:25:06","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T13:25:06","slug":"paulding-street-closed-because-of-tower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/04\/29\/paulding-street-closed-because-of-tower\/","title":{"rendered":"Paulding street closed because of tower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>PAULDING &#8212; Paulding County officials are taking safety precautions regarding a recent engineering study on the county-owned communications tower located at the west end of the county fairgrounds parking lot located in Paulding.<\/p>\n<p>Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative, which rents space on the tower, conducted a load study on the tower with hopes to install new equipment. The structural engineering firm that completed the study returned a finding that, under current regulation standard ANSI\/TIA-222-G, the tower does not comply due to wind speed and ice build-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter having a meeting with county and village officials, as well as our risk management folks, it was decided to close Fairground Drive and mark out a 400-foot radius with flags around the tower until we can obtain a second opinion,\u201d said Paulding County Sheriff Jason K. Landers. \u201cIn this situation, the safety of the public outweighs the inconvenience to the folks that travel in this area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one wants to believe this 400-foot tower is going to fall over, but since officials have been put on notice of the engineer\u2019s findings, we have to take a cautious approach,\u201d the sheriff added. \u201cPhone calls have already been made to get professionals here and provide further advice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tower was built in 2005 using Homeland Security funds.
