Latta will be joined by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Ohio Department of Health Director Richard Hodges, and Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director Tracy Plouck.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33253\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33253\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Latta-Bob-8-2012.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-33253\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Latta-Bob-8-2012.jpg\" alt=\"U.S. Rep. Bob Latta\" width=\"150\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33253\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>U.S. Rep. Bob Latta<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The forum will consist of opening remarks by Latta, DeWine, Hodges, and Plouck, followed by a panel discussion to raise awareness of increased heroin and opioid abuse across northwest and west central Ohio, and to find solutions to the epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, resource tables will be available to offer educational materials.\u00a0The panel, comprising of local law enforcement, medical experts, and community advocates, will address why and how opioid dependence is so prevalent, what resources are available to help those addicted, and how to stop opioid abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpioid abuse and addiction is a public health crisis that we need to combat with a coordinated effort involving health professionals, law enforcement, public officials, and our communities,\u201d said Latta. \u201cHeroin and opioid abuse has no boundaries and does not discriminate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe devastation we\u2019ve seen across Ohio as a result of this crisis is heartbreaking,\u201d he added. \u201cIn 2014 in our state, 2,531 lives were lost due to unintentional drug overdoses.\u00a0More must be done to save people\u2019s lives and build communities back up.\u00a0My hope for this forum is to better understand the impact of opioid addiction across our district and to take ideas back to Washington, D.C. to address this rapidly growing problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForums like this are critically important because communities need to confront the problem of opiate addiction and abuse head-on,\u201d said DeWine.\u00a0\u201cThe opiate crisis is affecting every corner of this state, and where I\u2019ve seen real change is in communities where residents have joined together to learn about the problem and fight it.\u00a0 This forum is a step in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cOhio is in an all-out fight against opiate abuse,\u201d Hodges noted. \u201cWe will continue to try to stop this epidemic\u00a0by\u00a0tackling the supply of drugs, preventing drug abuse before it starts, treating those who fall prey to drug addiction, and reversing drug overdoses with an antidote called naloxone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince taking office, Governor John R.
