{"id":76666,"date":"2016-05-27T07:23:57","date_gmt":"2016-05-27T12:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=76666"},"modified":"2016-05-27T07:23:57","modified_gmt":"2016-05-27T12:23:57","slug":"no-background-checks-for-cc-holders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/05\/27\/no-background-checks-for-cc-holders\/","title":{"rendered":"No background checks for CC holders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that Ohioans who have a valid concealed handgun license have now had background checks sufficient to purchase firearms without the red tape of another background check.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have agreed to Attorney General DeWine\u2019s request for an exemption to the mandatory National Instant Criminal Background Check provided the Ohio concealed handgun license was issued on or after March 23, 2015, and that the permit has not expired under state law or been revoked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pleased Ohio concealed carry license holders will not have to undergo additional background checks each time they want to buy a firearm,\u201d said Attorney General DeWine. \u201cOhio concealed carry license holders who are in good standing have already passed thorough state and federal background checks\u00a0 so there is no reason \u00a0to force them to submit to additional checks if they want to buy a firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General DeWine was able to work with the ATF to obtain this exemption following changes made by the Ohio General Assembly in House Bill 234 that required the use of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for all new and renewed concealed handgun licenses.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio is the 25th state to receive a NICS exemption for its concealed handgun license holders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent\/submitted information COLUMBUS &#8212; Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that Ohioans who have a valid concealed handgun license have now had background checks sufficient to purchase firearms without the red tape of another background check.
