{"id":76895,"date":"2016-06-04T06:31:35","date_gmt":"2016-06-04T11:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=76895"},"modified":"2016-06-04T06:35:09","modified_gmt":"2016-06-04T11:35:09","slug":"ohio-a-g-warns-ohioans-of-fentanyl-dangers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/06\/04\/ohio-a-g-warns-ohioans-of-fentanyl-dangers\/","title":{"rendered":"DeWine: Fentanyl use increasing in Ohio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBUS \u2014 Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine continues to caution Ohioans about the powerful drug fentanyl after Prince\u2019s autopsy reveals the artist\u2019s cause of death was \u201cself-administered fentanyl.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_52811\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52811\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Mike-DeWine-headshot-200px-6-2014.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-52811\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-52811\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Mike-DeWine-headshot-200px-6-2014.jpg\" alt=\"Attorney General Mike DeWine\" width=\"200\" height=\"314\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-52811\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Attorney General Mike DeWine<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen what\u2019s coming into the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Lab, as far as drug submissions from law enforcement around the state, and statistics show how dramatically fentanyl is on the rise in Ohio,\u201d said DeWine.\u00a0 \u201cIn 2010, we had only 34 cases of fentanyl and last year we had 1,110 cases.\u00a0 We\u2019re on track this year to surpass 2015 numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BCI Labs in Ohio (London, Richfield, and Bowling Green) are seeing mostly synthetic (as opposed to prescription) fentanyl, which first appeared in 2013 in Ohio. It\u2019s 30 to 50 times stronger than heroin, according to the National Institute for Drug Abuse.
