{"id":78628,"date":"2016-08-04T07:20:03","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T12:20:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=78628"},"modified":"2016-08-04T07:20:03","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T12:20:03","slug":"patrol-sets-ovi-checkpoint-in-vw-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/08\/04\/patrol-sets-ovi-checkpoint-in-vw-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrol sets OVI checkpoint in VW County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an impaired driving checkpoint would be held in Van Wert County Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2340\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" alt=\"osplogo\" width=\"121\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The OVI (operating a vehicle while impaired) checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Based on provisional data, there were 315 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 349 people were killed last year in Ohio,&#8221; said Lieutenant Tim Grigsby, commander of the Van Wert Post. &#8220;State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,&#8221; Lt.
