An injury to Cougar runner Reggie Phillips likely made the difference between where the Van Wert boys\u2019 track team finished and where it could have finished. The Cougars tied for fourth place with Kenton with 61 points, but could have made a run at first place if Phillips hadn\u2019t pulled a hamstring. The Lady Cougars were fifth out of 10 teams with 50 points.<\/p>\n

Phillips\u2019 brother, Chadd, did a good job in the 200-meter dash, winning the event in 23.11 seconds over Kenton\u2019s Maty Mauk, but Van Wert could have had a 1-2 finish in the race, or at least a 1-3 finish. Even worse, the Cougar 4×200-meter relay team, which originally included Reggie and Chadd Phillips, Tyson Crone and Seth Kopp and had finished first in the preliminary heats, didn\u2019t make it into the top seven teams during the finals after Phillips was injured (click here<\/a><\/strong> for full meet results).<\/p>\n

Other first-place finishes were turned in by Jacob Myers in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), Sydney Riethman in the long jump (17 feet, 10\u00be inches) and the girls\u2019 4×100-meter relay team (Riethman, Ashley Mohr, Amanda Clay and Rachel Scheidt) in a school record 51.04 seconds.<\/p>\n

Jared Fleming placed second in both the 1600-meter run (4:32.35) and the 3200-meter run (10:19.50) and was third in the 800-meter run (2:02.58). Chadd Phillips placed fifth in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches), the 4×400-meter boys\u2019 relay team (Kopp, Fleming, Cody Rolsten and Taylor Robenalt) was third (3:31.85), the boys\u2019 4×800-meter relay team (Eric Easley, Rolsten, Luke Brubaker and Nathan Wilhelm) was sixth (8:58.21), Zach Keirns was fourth in the long jump (19 feet, 10 inches) and fifth in the shot (43 feet, 7\u00be inches), Ashley Mohr finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (47.68 seconds) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.01 seconds), Amanda Clay was fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.08 seconds) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.27 seconds), while Andrea Foster finished fifth in the 3200-meter run (12:27.05) and Rachel Scheidt was fifth in the long jump 16 feet, 6\u00bc inches (click here<\/a><\/strong> for more photos).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
