The Van Wert Area Nursing Association awarded three scholarships at their May Nurse’s Day Celebration. Two $750 scholarships and one $500 scholarship were awarded. These scholarships are given in a five-county area that includes Van Wert and funds are mainly raised through the “Nurses Hit the Road” bus trip held each October.<\/p>\n

The scholarships are given on need and an essay each student writes on “Why did I choose Nursing as a career. Or why you want to further your degree and what are your future plans in the profession of nursing after graduation.<\/p>\n

The first recipient was Amy Homan of Celina, who received $750.\u00a0Homan is Registered Nurse who is enrolled in the Family Nursing Practitioner Program at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind. She is employed at Coldwater Hospital.<\/p>\n

Larrisa Watson of Van Wert received a $750 scholarship. Watson also attends St. Francis University, where she is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Watson works at Van Wert County Hospital in registration and central scheduling.<\/p>\n

Annette Cox of Delphos received $500. Cox is in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program through Northwest State Community College. She presently is employed at Westrich Furniture in Delphos.<\/p>\n

The association thanks all students and nurses that applied.<\/p>\n
